FIELD OF ACTIVITIES
Experimental and design studies of aircraft and airframe components thermal stregth.
Over 120 full-scale airframes were tested including: Aggregates and components of Buran, the aircraft-spacecraft;Spacecrafts of various classes including Molniya K-40, and various spacecraft aggregates (wings, rudders, and ceramic nose cones), КСР-5, Х-45 and 3М-80 of Raduga, the Mechanical-Engineering Design Bureau, and others; Tail protection of E spacecraft unit of L3 lunar vehicle.
The Institute has developed and introduced the following methods: Simulation of aerodinamic heating using infra-red heaters; Airframes jet cooling; Heat endurance tests of cockpit canopies of supersonic aircrafts.
